This is what Anna Kournikova had to say about her first of two exhibition matches against Monica Seles. Kournikova has always been a huge fan of Seles. Today, her idol beat her 7/6, 6/4. Seles, the winner of the Minnesota Tennis Challenge, also had some good words for her opponent. She pointed out that Kournikova was ranked #8 in 2001 before an ankle injury started messing with her results. Still according to Monica, the Russian player is one of the hardest workers on the tour. Tomorrow, Seles and Kournikova will play against each other in Winnipeg, Canada! |

The WTA Tour 2003 season will begin in about two weeks! Meanwhile, Monica travels around the world to participate in various exhibition matches. It all began on November 14th, only a few days after the end of the final event of the 2002 season. Monica defeated her good friend Martina Navratilova 7/6 and 6/2. It was a charity event for Colorado organizations fighting against multiple sclerosis. Then, only 3 days after her 29th birthday, Monica went to Dublin to play the Collins Cup. She was a member of the US Team (playing against the Europe team). The event was also called the Trilogy and it was a benefit event for the Children of Chernobyl Project. On December 5th, for her first match in Dublin, Monica defeated Anna Kournikova in straight sets 7/6 and 6/4. Seles also won her doubles match with Lindsay Davenport, beating Iva Majoli and Barbara Schett 6/1, 7/6. Earlier this week (on Tuesday), Monica was back in the US for an exhibition match against Lindsay Davenport. The event was held in Baltimore. This time, Seles lost 6/4, 6/4. But who really cares? The Chevy Chase Bank Tennis Challenge was a success and it will help children in need in the area of Baltimore. This weekend, Monica will play two more exhibitions against Anna Kournikova. The first match will happen at the Xcel Energy Center in St.Paul Minnesota on December 14th. The 2nd match is on December 15th' schedule in Winnipeg, Canada.
